Whether you're making the most of the summer holidays or simply looking for inspiration for a weekend out, August is packed with fantastic events across Scotland and Northumberland. From agricultural shows and country fairs to music festivals, historic experiences and family-friendly activities, there's something to suit every interest. We've rounded up some of the highlights taking place this month to help you make the most of the season.

Turriff Show

Scotland's largest two-day agricultural event returns with equestrian events and competitions from livestock to horses and working dogs, along with over 300 exhibitor stands showcasing some of the finest local food and drink producers, as well as talented arts and crafts makers. With hundreds of attractions and experiences, there’s something for all the family to enjoy.

Kelso Antiques Flea Market Fair

Billed as the largest antique flea market in the Scottish Borders, this indoor fair run by Blacks Saleroom – and held at Borders Events Centre – features a wide range of antiques, vintage treasures and collectables from traders across the UK. Whether you’re a seasoned antique hunter or simply enjoy browsing, this fair is well worth a visit.

Falconry at Warkworth Castle

Set against the backdrop of the medieval Warkworth Castle, this is an opportunity to get up close with these magnificent birds of prey. Expert falconers will showcase displays of speed and skill as their birds soar and swoop overhead. You’ll also get the chance to chat to the falconers and see their hawks, owls and falcons while at rest.

Holy Island Causeway Guided Walk

Organised by Ad Gefrin and led by knowledgeable local guide Birch, this guided walk will begin at the start of the iconic causeway, following the ancient pilgrims’ route to Lindisfarne. Over four hours, you’ll experience the unique landscape and rich history of this special place as you walk across the sands at low tide, followed by a delicious picnic, taking in the views and atmosphere of Holy Island, before catching the return bus back to Ad Gefrin.

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

One of the most popular festivals in the Highlands, Belladrum combines live music with comedy, theatre, family entertainment and fantastic local food. Set in the beautiful grounds of Belladrum Estate, near Inverness, this year’s musical line-up is headlined by James, The Human League, and Callum Beattie.

Moy Country Fair

A highlight of the Highland countryside calendar, the Moy Country Fair celebrates rural living with two days of activities and displays including field sports, gundog demonstrations and falconry, alongside craft marquees and a food hall packed with local artisan food. Again, a great day out for all the family.

The North East Dog Festival

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Kirkley Hall, the festival has charmed its way into the hearts of thousands of dog lovers. Established in 2015, this canine celebration is packed with exciting arena displays, have-a-go activities, and expert talks on the well-being stage, along with two charity dog shows, a Kennel Club Scruffts qualifier, and over 120 exhibitors offering food and drink and plenty of shopping opportunities.

Maltings Summer Art Camp

Play, create and discover at this Summer Art Camp held at Maltings Hide Hill. Delivered in partnership with Allanbank Arts, and taking part across four hands-on sessions, children will create kites and mobiles, sculpt clay creatures, experiment with printmaking, and design their own underwater worlds inspired by the sea and summer adventures.
