Natural Capital & Environmental Management
Client: Corporate Landholding, Moray & Highlands
Project: Woodland Creation, Peatland Restoration & Carbon Projects
Overview
Paton & Co advised a large corporate landholding across Moray and the Highlands on the development and implementation of natural capital and environmental management projects.
Our work focused on identifying opportunities to enhance the environmental value of the land while also creating sustainable long-term income streams. This included the design and delivery of significant habitat restoration projects, such as large-scale native woodland creation and peatland restoration.
The schemes were structured to align with recognised carbon standards, allowing the projects to generate verified and tradable carbon units.
Our Involvement
Our role included:
Identifying suitable land for woodland creation and peatland restoration
Designing projects that met environmental and commercial objectives
Managing scheme registration under recognised carbon standards
Coordinating with environmental specialists, contractors and regulators
Advising on long-term land management and carbon market opportunities
Outcome
The projects delivered significant environmental improvements, including increased biodiversity and meaningful carbon sequestration.
At the same time, the landowner benefited from:
The creation of new revenue streams through carbon markets
Enhanced long-term environmental value of the land
Strategic positioning to benefit from emerging natural capital and environmental markets
This project demonstrates how carefully planned environmental initiatives can support both land stewardship and long-term financial sustainability.
