Adventure to Applecross

Applecross is the Gaelic word for sanctuary and if you are in need of that, you’ll find it here. The views alone are enough to still your heart and let your spirit soar – the stunning Cuillin mountains on one side of you and the sea on the other. This really is one of our very favourite spots.

There are only two roads that access Applecross and both have breathtaking views! We recommend driving the Bealach na Ba to Applecross, one of the highest mountain passes in Britain, and potentially returning on the coastal road via Shieldaig- stunning!! It is a very steep road but the views are unforgettable. This route forms part of the famous NC500.

Once you arrive in Applecross there will be a warm welcome in the local pub, beaches, sea kayaking adventures, ice cream, views and sunsets! This is a spot we always try to take our visitors as it is truly spectacular. Imagine owning a property here and being able to call it home!!

What to do in and around Applecross:

Applecross Estate Walled Garden: Enjoy exploring the Applecross Estate Walled Garden and eat in the delicious Walled Garden Restaurant – the food is excellent and the atmosphere is very chilled and relaxed. Make sure you book!

Applecross Inn: Eat at the famous Applecross Inn. This fabulous Inn offers a tasty menu with a great range of seafood. It isn’t huge and will be bustling in the summer, whilst offering a quieter and more snug vibe in winter. Eat outside in summer at their ‘Inside Out Fish ‘n Chip Airstream’, serving Ice-cream from Applecross Ices…Yum! Make sure you book.

Applecross Heritage Centre: This is a haven for information on all the local history. Learn about the Monastic history and historical spots to visit in Applecross and the area. Lots of leaflets available. Great walking leaflet with lovely short and longer walks.

Beautiful Beaches: Sands beach 4 miles along the coast road from the Applecross Inn is the most beautiful and well known spot to walk, ponder, walk your dog or wild swim. Walk to and from Sands beach along the Sand path from behind Clachan Manse to build up an appetite!

Walking & Hiking: Explore the numerous short and long walks weaving in and around Applecross Estate. Beautiful scenery, steeped in history. Find the quiet and attractive ‘Lost Path’ to wander along on amongst the leafy canopy of oak trees.  Or venture further afield and tackle a munro or two- there are plenty to choose from!

Pack a Picnic: There is a local shop which stocks most things and we always recommend supporting local. So why not pack up a picnic and walk to a choice of beaches, stride hills and wander by the rivers and lochs, sea kayak, fish or swim. There is wildlife everywhere, starting with wandering sheep, ducks, hens, geese and red deer.

Torridon is 40 minutes in the car for more wonderful walks, a mighty loch and views. It is also worth mentioning that the Torridon Hotel was featured recently in season 3 of TV series ‘Amazing Hotels’ – it is a special place to venture to for an evening of fine dining.

If you want to venture further afield then it is only about 1hr 15min to the Isle of Skye and the host of exploring it offers.

We really do recommend Applecross as a place to visit or live:  applecross.uk.com
